A new layer of complexity has been added to Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly’s legal and personal battle with her estranged husband, Peter Haag on Saturday, as their discord spans India and Austria. Jaitly approached the Mumbai Police on Friday to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against Haag, leveling serious allegations.

According to police officials in the know of the case, the FIR was registered at the Versova Police Station under multiple provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to cruelty, criminal intimidation, harassment and physical assault. Reportedly, the authorities have also issued a Look Out Circular against Haag, citing his non-cooperation in the police probe. The proceeding runs parallel to an existing case under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, complicating the legal landscape.

Haag assumed control over Jaitly’s personal assets, she claims

Jaitly, in the submissions made to police and court, accused Haag of sustained abuse on emotional, verbal, physical, sexual and financial levels. She alleged that after getting hitched to him, Haag restricted her professional engagements, curtailing her financial independence and assumed control over her personal assets.

She claimed further that during a particularly vulnerable period, when she had lost her newborn son and both her parents, Haag mounted pressure on her to transfer ownership of her property in Mumbai.

Seeking legal recourse, Jaitly demanded Rs 50 crore in damages, citing alleged financial losses, property disputes and maintenance claims.

Jaitly restricted from meeting children

The developments come against the backdrop of an ongoing custody battle over the couple’s three sons. In a recent social media post uploaded by Jaitly, she posted a video from Austria, where she had travelled for divorce proceedings. In the video, she was seen visiting the grave of her late son Shamsher, who succumbed to a congenital heart condition in 2017.

The actor alleged  that despite a joint arrangement for custody and directives from the court, she was barred from meeting her three sons during the visit. Furthermore, she claimed that the children were moved to an undisclosed location and accused Haag of obstructing her communication with them, besides pitting them against her.

Couple tied the knot in 2010

Jaitly, who has starred in Hindi movies such as No Entry and Apna Sapna Money Money, had tied the knot with Haag in 2010. Subsequently, the couple relocated to numerous countries including Dubai, Singapore and Austria, and are parents to sons Viraaj, Winston and Arthur.

Haag, in the thick of the development, has yet to respond publicly to the latest allegations.
