The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) on Friday released the Class 10 (HSLC) examination results for the academic year 2025-26. The pass rate this year dipped to 88.74% from last year’s 91.37%. As many as 36,725 students took the board exams, including 18,375 boys and 18,350 girls. The exams were conducted from February 23 to March 23 at 161 centres across the state. 

Imphal’s School Education Commissioner, Ningthoujam Geoffrey and BOSEM Chairman Ng Bhogendro Singh announced the result, alongside other officials.

Chandel emerges as top-performing district

Among Manipur’s 16 districts, Chandel delivered the best performance, logging a pass rate of 97.38%. Thoubal followed on the list with 96.30%, while Jiribam stood at the last spot with 74.59%. 

Students exhibit resilience amid crisis

Amid the continued impact of unrest in Manipur, 392 Class 10 students took the exam, of which 327 were declared qualified. This marked a pass percentage of 83.85% among those residing in relief camps. In the thick of challenging circumstances, the said students demonstrated stellar resilience, and authorities acknowledged their efforts in overcoming disruption to their education.

Hill and Valley divide in participation

Of the total students, 19,046 students hailed from hill districts, while 17,679 students belonged to valley districts. Among displaced students, 231 of them hailed from valley districts, while 161 from hill regions. 

Strict measures initiated to curb malpractice

Notably, to ensure the integrity of the exams, BOSEM had introduced stringent anti-malpractice regulations under the Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in High School Leaving Certificate, as well as the Higher Secondary Examinations Act, 2024.

Under the legislation, authorities had warned that any student found guilty of breaching the exam norms could face a jail term of up to 10 years, along with a fine of up to Rs 1 crore. 

During the 2025-26 exams, 8 students were debarred and expelled for impersonation. Additionally, one student was expelled, while the results of three other students were withheld. BOSEM has directed the school authorities to coordinate with the Controller of Examinations regarding the withheld results of the students concerned.
