IPL 2026 Abhishek Sharma fined: Dynamic all-rounder Abhishek Sharma, representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, has been reprimanded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), owing to a breach of the IPL’s code of conduct during his side’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday. IPL confirmed that Sharma was fined 25% of his match fee and was also handed one demerit point. According to IPL, the sanction comes under a Level 1 offence as per Article 2.3, which pertains to the use of inappropriate or audible obscenities during a match.

Sharma admits to offence

After the rebuke, Sharma admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s decision, which stands final and binding for such breaches. In the clash against KKR, Sharma returned to form and delivered a blistering 48 off just 21 deliveries. His batting included four boundaries and four sixes, providing a flying start to SRH’s innings. Notably, the level 1 offences are considered minor within the IPL’s disciplinary framework, but repeated violations could invite harsher sanctions, including suspension from the tournament.

Klaasen leads SRH’s batting charge

On the field, SRH exhibited a commanding performance at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. After being put in to bat, Sharma and Travis Head stitched together a rapid 82-run opening partnership in just 84 balls. Heinrich Klaasen then anchored the innings, logging 52 runs, while Nitish Kumar Reddy added 39 runs, propelling SRH to an impressive total of 226/8.

Responding to SRH, KKR faltered under pressure, and managed to post just 161 runs in 16 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi offered some resistance with a brisk 52 off 29 deliveries. Jaydev Unadkat led SRH’s bowling attack, claiming 3 wickets for 21. He was joined by Reddy and Eshan Malinga, who clinched 2 wickets each to dismantle the KKR batting line-up. Despite the off-field setback, Sharma’s performance played a pivotal role in SRH’s emphatic 65-run victory, though his disciplinary record will now be under scrutiny as the tournament progresses.
