NSG Commandos demo Bhopal: The National Security Guards (NSG) showcased a high-intensity demonstration of counter-terror capabilities on Monday at the Jahangirabad Parade Ground in Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal. In the demonstration, the NSG sleuths exhibited advanced tactical responses to evolving security threats. The event was titled, ‘Comprehensive Capacity Building Training and Demonstration,’ where Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav was present as the chief guest.

CM announces DPR for counter-terror unit worth Rs 200 cr


At the gathering organised after the event, the Chief Minister announced that the state government has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth Rs 200 crore to establish a counter-terrorism group under the state police. He added that a dedicated centre would be laid in Toomda village near Bhopal to ramp up preparedness against potential threats in the future.


Continuing his statements, CM Dr Yadav emphasised the importance of equipping security forces with cutting-edge infrastructure and training to effectively combat terrorism and ensure the safety of the general public. 



Commandos simulate real-time threat scenarios


The NSG Commandos conducted a series of live-action drills replicating real-world terror situations. The highlight of the programme was them neutralising a drone attempting to target a VIP, demonstrating the force’s anti-drone capabilities. 


In another exercise showcased at the event, Commandos executed a high-risk rescue operation, ensuring the safe evacuation of civilians amid hostile conditions. Moreover, they also performed an aerial insertion using a helicopter, entering a building to engage and neutralise terrorists in a simulated urban combat scenario.

Furthermore, the programme featured a range of modern security techniques, including slithering operations from an MI-17 helicopter, close-quarter battle tactics, house intervention drills and VIP protection strategies. They also demonstrated the Krav Maga-based unarmed combat, bomb disposal techniques and the use of K-9 dog squads for detecting improvised explosive devices (IEDs). 


Additionally, specialised displays such as anti-drone operations and underwater diving underscored the unit’s versatility in handling multi-dimensional threats. At the event, senior officials, such as the Director General of Police (DGP) of MP, Kailash Makwaka and top NSG officers were also present. The demonstration came to an end with a coordinated rescue drill, reinforcing the force’s readiness to safeguard civilians during terror incidents.
