MP CM Gudi Padwa: Members of the Maharashtrian community in state capital Bhopal organised a grand Gudi Padwa cultural programme at Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav’s official residence on Wednesday. CM Dr Yadav attended the event, and was accorded a warm and traditional welcome by the organisers. Rhythmic beats of dhol-tash reverberated through the area during the festivities. 

At the event, the members of the community presented ‘Gudi’ to CM Dr Yadav, symbolizing victory and prosperity. Alongside this, they also gifted him a Peshwai turban, a ceremonial scarf, and a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, reflecting the pride and rich heritage of Marathi culture.

CM Dr Yadav underlines significance of Gudi Padwa


Addressing the attendees of the event, CM Dr Yadav shed light on the cultural significance of Gudi Padwa. He described it as a symbol of tradition, renewed energy and prosperity. He also noted that the festival inspires the people to progress in their lives with fresh resolve and optimism. 


He said, “The joy and enthusiasm associated with Gudi Padwa convey a message of social harmony and renewed vitality,” adding that the festival would be observed across the state with immense fervour and devotion. Notably, the Madhya Pradesh government has also declared a holiday on Gudi Padwa to mark the occasion.

MP CM Gudi Padwa: Details about the festival


Gudi Padwa marks the onset of Marathi new year and is primarily celebrated in Maharashtra and Goa. It falls on the first day of the Chaitra month in the Hindu lunar calendar, and coincides with the arrival of spring and the harvest season. 


Hoisting of Gudi is considered a key ritual during the festival. Gudi is essentially a decorated flag placed outside the homes, which symbolises victory, prosperity and a positive beginning to the new year. The festival is celebrated with vibrant decorations, traditional attire, and community gatherings.
