MP 6 medical colleges: The Madhya Pradesh government chaired a Cabinet meeting on Monday, where it approved a series of key proposals, including the establishment of six new medical colleges in the state and the continuation of major public works, as well as welfare schemes. The meeting was chaired by MP Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav, which also focused on strengthening irrigation infrastructure and ramping up agricultural support.

Women empowerment drive gains momentum
Ahead of the meeting, CM Dr Yadav emphasised the importance of the ongoing women’s empowerment initiatives in the state. He said that the upcoming week would be a crucial one, as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023 is slated to be tabled for approval during a special session of Parliament starting April 16, 2026.
Notably, the state is currently observing the Nari Shakti Vandan Pakhwada, which will continue until April 25. 2026. Under this, a string of conferences and padyatras (foot marches) are being organised across the state, alongside awareness programmes in colleges to promote women’s participation and empowerment.
Farmers to get subsidy
Further in the meeting, CM Dr Yadav also underlined the Union Government’s decision to approve a subsidy of Rs 41,833 crore on phosphatic and potassic fertilisers for the Kharif 2026 season. The move is likely to provide substantial relief to farmers and encourage agricultural productivity.
It is noteworthy that on Saturday, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had inaugurated a 3-day agricultural festival in Raisen, signalling the government’s continued focus on the rural economy. The Chief Minister noted that development activities in Balaghat would be stepped up following the decline in Naxal-related disturbances in the region.

The Cabinet gave nod to proposals to establish new medical colleges in the Rajgarh, Mandla, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Shivpuri and Singrauli districts of Madhya Pradesh. The decision’s goal is to improve access to quality medical education and healthcare services in these regions.
Moreover, the Cabinet also landed on the decision to continue the agriculture mechanisation scheme, ensuring farmers retain access to modern equipment and technology.
Sagar gets Rs 286 cr irrigation project
The agricultural sector got another shot in the arm, as the Cabinet sanctioned the Midwasa Medium Irrigation Project in Sagar district at an outlay of Rs 286 crore. The project is expected to provide irrigation facilities to nearly 7,200 hectares of land, enhancing crop yield and water management.
