Chhindwara bus accident: As many as 10 people were killed and more than 20 suffered grievous injuries after a bus collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district Thursday evening, and overturned thereafter, the police said. According to police, the incident occurred near Simaria on the Nagpur Road, at a distance of 25 kilometres from the district headquarters. Chhindwara’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Pandey said that three women, six men and a child were among the ones who lost their lives.

In the aftermath of the incident, MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav took to his official ‘X’ handle and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the kin of each deceased, as well as that of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of the injured. His post mentioned that state minister Rakesh Singh has been instructed to reach the district immediately. Additionally, CM Dr Yadav has directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for victims. 


According to his post, a team of doctors from Jabalpur has been directed to assist medical efforts in Chhindwara and Nagpur. The state government has also assured free treatment for all injured individuals and has established a control room in Bhopal to monitor their condition.

Passengers were returning from CM Dr Yadav’s event


According to officials, the ill-fated bus was ferrying 40 passengers, who were returning from a public function attended by MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav. The collision was severe, which led to heavy casualties and injuries to multiple persons, who were on board. Kotwali Police station in-charge Ashish Kumar said that on receipt of the information, emergency services were rushed to the spot.

Injured rushed to district hospital


The rescuers swiftly rushed the injured persons to the district hospital and nearby medical facilities by means of private vehicles and ambulances. Authorities said that senior officials, including the district collector and senior cops, reached the hospital to take stock of the survivors. 

Sources said medical teams have been mobilised to ensure the patients receive prompt care, while additional support has been deployed to handle critical patients.
