CM Dr Yadav had presented the clock to his UP counterpart, Yogi Adityanath on April 3. Subsequently, it was installed on the temple premises on April 4, 2026, coinciding with Vikram Samwat 2083, Vaishakh Krishna Paksha Dwitiya, following traditional rituals.

Cultural legacy transitions into Kashi from Ujjain

Originating from Ujjain, the sacred hub of ancient Indian time calculation, the initiative reflects a broader vision to promote indigenous knowledge systems. The MP government, as per officials, plans to install similar clocks at all Jyotirlingas and at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Notably, the Vedic clock represents a symbolic bridge between India’s rich cultural heritage and contemporary technological advancements, bringing the essence of traditional time reckoning to prominent spiritual centres.

Vikramaditya Vedic clock Kashi: Tradition fused with technology

According to reports, the clock, developed by the Maharaja Vikramaditya Research Institute, is far more than a conventional timekeeping device. It operates based on sunrise and divides a full day into 30 ‘muhurats,’ in accordance with ancient Indian astronomical principles. One of its unique abilities is to calculate time precisely, according to location-specific sunrise and sunset. Alongside Indian Standard Time (IST), it provides detailed insights like Tithi, Panchang, Yoga, Nakshatra, Bhadra, status and planetary positions.

According to a statement by the Department of Public Relations (DPR) of MP, the state has been actively working under CM Dr Yadav’s leadership to preserve and promote its cultural heritage through technological integration. The Vedic clock is being viewed as a pioneering effort to digitally revive India’s ancient systems of time calculation. It is noteworthy that the clock was first installed in Ujjain, and was inaugurated by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on February 29, 2024, during a ceremonially significant muhurat.
