Terror module bust: Punjab police on Saturday claimed to have dismantled a suspected terror module in Amritsar, which was allegedly funded by Pakistan’s Intelligence agency, the Inter-services Intelligence (ISI). The police arrested two suspects, and also recovered a cache of sophisticated weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, Glock pistols and ammunition, they said.

Punjab DGP informs about development
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab said that the Amritsar rural police conducted the operation, which resulted in seizure of a single AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 36 live cartridges. The cops also seized three advanced Glock 9mm pistols from the possession of the accused duo.
The police have booked a case against the accused at the Gharinda police station in Amritsar rural, and further probe is underway to identify the wider network behind the module. A statement issued by Punjab police on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) read that the force remains committed to a ‘zero-tolerance approach against terrorism, organised crime and trafficking of illegal arms.’

Cops suspect link with cross-border terror network
Officials involved in the probe suspect that the arrested accused were part of a cross-border arms smuggling network led by handlers based overseas. The investigating officials are now persevering in efforts to establish both forward and backward linkages to unearth the entire terror network.
Security agencies scanning cell phones of suspects
The law enforcement agencies are now scanning the cell phones of the suspects, as well as their social media accounts to trace their contacts and uncover the broader network behind the conspiracy. According to security officials, the probe remains ongoing as investigators attempt to map the full extent of the alleged terror and arms trafficking operation.
