Ponraj Vellaichamy prostitute comment: Tamil actor-politician Vijay on Thursday tore into Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) supporter and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s former advisor, Ponraj Vellaichamy, who had allegedly made obscene remarks against women associated with Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in a recent interview. Notably, Vellaichamy had called the female workers of the TVK ‘prostitutes’, sparking widespread outrage and several TVK workers denouncing the statements as deeply offensive.

Vijay hits out at DMK on ‘X’, demands accountability
In a strongly worded statement posted on social media, written in Tamil, Vijay criticised both Vellaichamy and the ruling DMK, accusing the party of shielding individuals who insult women. Vijay’s post translated to, “Such statements not only demean women but also reflect a broader failure to uphold dignity in public discourse.” He also underscored that the DMK government had taken ‘no action whatsoever’ against the person responsible. Furthermore, the TVK chief also warned that such incidents would have political consequences, suggesting that voters, particularly women, would respond decisively in the upcoming Assembly Elections in Tamil Nadu.

Ponraj Vellaichamy prostitute comment: Controversial remarks draw political backlash
Vellaichamy, known for his pro-DMK stance, had made inflammatory comments during an interview, referring to Vijay’s female supporters as prostitutes. His remarks drew immediate criticism from political fraternity and public alike. TVK General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna also lashed out at Vellaichamy, questioning his conduct and accusing him of lacking basic morality, as well as dignity, despite holding positions of responsibility previously.

Incident raises tensions ahead of 2026 polls
The incident has escalated political tensions in poll-bound Tamil Nadu. Vijay, who is set to contest the polls, has increasingly positioned TVK as a direct challenger to the DMK.
Women’s dignity takes centre stage in political debate
With Vellaichamy stirring a controversy, debates have reignited around political rhetoric and treatment of women in public life. Critics have argued that failure to act decisively against such remarks risks normalising misogyny (hatred against women) in political discourse.
As the row continues to gather momentum, pressure is mounting on the DMK government to clarify its stance and take appropriate action, with the issue emerging as a potential flashpoint in the state’s evolving political landscape.
