Jana Nayagan leak: Amid mounting speculation over the leak of Tamil movie, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ the final film of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s career, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has denied any involvement in the case, terming the allegations ‘baseless’ and ‘false.’ Notably, the film had been pending certification for several months, and surfaced online in high definition earlier this week. The leak triggered widespread outrage and confusion within the film industry.

CBFC issues statement on X via PIB

The CBFC, in an official statement issued via Press Information Bureau (PIB) on ‘X’, clarified that the film’s digital print had already been handed back to its makers well before the leak. The statement read, “Reports alleging that the Tamil movie Jana Nayagan has been leaked from the CBFC are false and baseless.”

Furthermore, the board clarified that access to the film remains strictly controlled. It added. “The content is password-protected and the KDM (Key Delivery Message) is solely with the producer or filmmaker. Without a valid KDM, the film cannot be viewed or accessed.” According to CBFC officials, the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) was returned to the applicant in Mumbai on March 17, 2026, with due acknowledgement.

Release in limbo

The H Vinoth directorial was slated to release in January 2026, but has since faced delays due to objections raised by CBFC during the certification process. Notably, the film holds utmost significance as Vijay’s final cinematic outing before his full-fledged political entry through his party, TVK, ahead of upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls 2026.
