Goa Luthra brothers' case: A sessions court in Goa’s Mapusa on Wednesday granted bail to brother Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane Club, where a fire broke out in December 2025, and claimed the lives of 25 people. However, the relief was short-lived for the duo, as both the accused will continue to remain in judicial custody on charges of a forgery case, which emerged last week.

Notably, the bail was granted in connection with the blaze that tore through the Arpora-based nightclub on December 6, 2025. As it claimed 25 lives, it also kicked up an outrage nationwide over safety lapses at entertainment venues and places of leisure.Goa Luthra brothers' case: Accused obtained excise license for nightclub
Advocate Parag Rao, who was representing the accused, told the media that Additional sessions judge Dvijple Patkar allowed conditional bail to them in the fire case. Despite this, the duo will remain lodged in jail following their arrest by the Mapusa Police on Monday in a separate case involving document forgery. As per police, the duo fabricated documents to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state’s health department, and subsequently used it to obtain an Excise license for the nightclub. The investigating police personnel said that shortly after the blaze broke out at the club, the Luthra brothers fled India and reached Thailand. They were deported on December 17, 2025, and were taken into custody by Goa’s Anjuna Police upon their return. Reportedly, the nightclub, located in Arpora village, had allegedly been operating without mandatory clearances and was found to be breaching multiple fire safety norms. Sessions court junked brothers’ bail in forgery case
It is noteworthy that earlier, the sessions court had rejected the Luthra brothers’ anticipatory bail pleas in the forgery case. Post-arrest, they were remanded to four days of police custody for further interrogation. Meanwhile, the Goa Police have filed a chargesheet invoking a culpable homicide case against 13 persons, including Luthra brothers and co-founder Ajay Gupta, in connection with the fire incident. Gupta, however, was granted bail by a Mapusa court last month.
