The investigating police personnel said that the incident unfolded on March 14. The accused, Ankesh Yogesh Bahirwar (22) resided in a live-in relationship with a woman named Priyanka Wandhar. As learnt by the police, Priyanka had parted ways with her husband, and was residing with Ankesh on the upper floor of her house.

Frequent disputes end in murder

The police said that tensions had been escalating between the two over the past few weeks, as both argued over Priyanka’s controlling behaviour. Additionally, Priyanka had allegedly imposed restrictions on Ankesh’s interactions with his family. On March 14, 2026, another argument ensued between the duo, and eventually spiralled out of control. In a fit of rage, Ankesh strangled Priyanka using a mobile phone charger’s wire. Following this, he allegedly attempted to cover up the crime. He contacted Priyanka’s father immediately, and claimed that she had attempted to die by suicide. Her kin rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. However, the death did not raise suspicion immediately.

Chandrapur woman murder: Ankesh confesses during interrogation

However, when the post-mortem report arrived on Saturday, it took the wraps off the crime, as it mentioned death due to strangulation. The police detained Ankesh for questioning, and during sustained interrogation, he confessed to killing her. The cops then recovered the wire used in strangling Priyanka, and took Ankesh into custody after registering a murder case against him. Notably, the incident has sent shockwaves across the city, raising concerns over domestic violence and crimes stemming from relationship disputes.
