Woman leaves home on pretext of going to college

The police said that the woman, a resident of Maneri Bigha, had left her home on April 28, 2026, telling her family members that she was going to college. However, when she did not return, her family began searching for her, and later approached the police.

Kin receive message on WhatsApp

A day after the woman vanished, her family received a distressing message on WhatsApp from her number, claiming that she had been abducted and was held captive at an undisclosed location in Sasaram. The message sparked panic among her family members, who alerted the police. The cops constituted a special investigation team, and initial efforts by them yielded little information, leaving both the family and the police in suspense.

Woman traced to railway station

After days of sustained efforts, the police managed to trace her location to Dehri-on-Sone railway station, where she was recovered under suspicious circumstances. Senior police officials said that during the course of the week-long search operation, the woman had allegedly misled both her family and the cops, complicating the probe.

‘Felt suffocated by family’s restrictions,’ says woman

Additional Superintendent of Police, Atulesh Jha said that during sustained interrogation, the woman admitted to fabricating the kidnapping tale. She told the police that she felt suffocated by strict restrictions imposed by her family, and experienced a lack of personal freedom. According to her statement, her ruse was an attempt to escape the alleged mental distress triggered by these constraints.
