Vizag brutal murder: An illicit relationship ended on a gruesome note in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam on Sunday. A man employed at the Indian Navy as a technician, who was already married to another woman, allegedly killed his lover, dismembered her body and attempted to conceal the crime by hiding her severed body parts in the fridge at his rented accommodation. He, however, surrendered to the police and was taken into custody, the police said.

Accused identified as Chintada Ravindra

The police said that the accused has been identified as Chintada Ravindra (30) posted at INS Dega. He had been residing in a rented flat in Gajuwaka area of the city for two years. On Sunday noon, he called his lover, Polipalli Mounika (28) to his house. The duo, as learnt by the police, had known each other since 2021, and had met on a dating application. They maintained a relationship over time.

The police added that an argument broke out between the two, as Mounika allegedly had taken Rs 3.5 lakh from Ravindra, and was threatening to expose their relationship to his wife. The situation took an ugly turn, as Ravindra smothered her to death.

Vizag brutal murder: Harrowing sequence of events follows

What particularly alarmed investigators is the sequence of events that followed. The police claimed that Ravindra had earlier attempted to procure knives locally, and eventually ordered them online. He then dismembered Mounika’s body into three parts. He stored one of them in a refrigerator, another one in a sack under his bed, and took remaining parts to a secluded area near Adavivaram and set it on fire. Despite the grotesque events transpiring inside, neighbours did not hear any unusual sounds, describing an unsettling calm around the flat.

Accused surrenders to cops after friend’s advice

When the incident took place, Ravindra’s wife was away at her parental home after the birth of their child, leaving the residence vacant. After attempting to erase evidence, the accused did not flee, and instead, confided in a friend. His friend advised him to surrender to the police, and acting on the same, he surrendered at the Gajuwaka police station. Following this, the police sprung into action, entered his flat, and recovered the severed remains, as well as other crucial evidence.

Incident leaves neighbourhood disturbed, say police

As per police, the harrowing murder has left the local community in shock, while Mounika’s family is grappling with an irreparable loss. An investigating police officer said, “This is not just a murder, it was the chilling aftermath that has disturbed everyone involved.”
