Instagram update 2026: Social media platform Instagram has rolled out an impressive feature on Thursday, aimed at revving up safety, particularly for young users and teenagers. According to the new feature, if kids or teenagers repeatedly search suicide related-content, or ways to harm themselves, the platform will notify their parents about the same at the earliest.

Only these parents to receive alerts from Instagram

However, as per a report by the Associate Press, only those parents who have signed up for Instagram's parental supervision programme will receive alert from the social media giant.

The parents concerned will receive notifications from Instagram via text message, WhatsApp, or email, based on the contact details they have provided. Additionally, they will also receive a notification on their own Instagram account.

These countries to benefit from Instagram's new feature

Reportedly, the United States of America, Britain, Australia and Canada will be the first countries to receive the app's updated feature. Plans to expand to additional regions will be mulled later.

Move comes amid ongoing trials against Meta

The move by the Meta-owned company comes at a time when Meta is already facing two ongoing trials concerning alleged mental health harms to the kids using their social media platforms. Meta also uploaded a blog post, which read that they shall avoid sending these notifications unnecessarily. “Our goal is to empower parents to step in if their teen’s searches suggest they may need support,” the company's statement further read.
