Hustle Culture in India: Nowadays, there is a war of debate on the topic of Hustle Culture on social media. Many people are in favor of this culture and many are opposing it. In India, the discussion on this topic started when Infosys co-founder Mr. Narayan Murthy said in an interview that Indian youth should work 70 hours a week.

After this statement of his, it was as if there was an earthquake on social media. Many people were in support of his statement and many were against it. People argued that if we work for 70 hours, then when will we find time for family and self. This is also correct.

Recently some incidents have given it a boost again like Kritarth Mittal a 25 year old co-founder of Al startup was admitted in hospital due to overwork. According to him his bad lifestyle, working all night, unhealthy food and insufficient sleep were the main reasons for this. In another incident a 26 year old chartered accountant who worked in a reputed international finance company died due to heart attack.
The family alleged that work pressure due to bad environment, excessive work load and long working hours has caused the death of their daughter.

What is Hustle Culture?

Today, people are competing for success, and everyone is willing to work as hard as possible to achieve success. This is negatively impacting their physical and mental health. This trend of overwork is being called hustle culture. According to psychologists, this culture increases the risk of heart disease, heart attack, blood pressure, depression, and mental and emotional stress.

New Thoughts on Hustle Culture

Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor has opposed this culture and called it a nonsense idea. He said, "Why are you working till midnight? Who told you? Go home, you have a dog, a wife, a girlfriend, kids, do whatever you want. Sacrificing everything to become something is a wrong principle. You don't have to go crazy while working for success. No one can run away from hard work because nothing comes easy in life, but
not at the cost of going crazy."

Yet another tragic news came : Mr. Tarun Saxena, a 37-year-old area manager at Bajaj Finance, committed suicide at his home. In his suicide note, he cited excessive work stress, lack of sleep, pressure from missed targets, and mental unrest as the reasons. These incidents are deeply disturbing, reflecting the pressure young people are facing and the consequences

However, CEOs of many companies including Mr. Narayan Murthy have written on Hustle Culture is for better performance in the office. Although many company CEOs, including Mr. Narayana Murthy, have recommended working overtime for better performance in the office, but it's the personal choice of the individualand one should determine the extent and amount of work he/she can do without harming
one's health.
