Delhi rain alert: The residents of the national capital experienced a significant dip in mercury levels on Tuesday, as rain lashed several parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), amid the downpours, has forecasted more wet and unsettled weather for Delhi in the days ahead.
According to IMD, Delhi is expected to remain under cloudy skies until April 6, along with intermittent spells of light rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning. The officials said that similar conditions will likely recur around April 3 and 4, keeping the weather patterns variable through the week.

Maximum temp fluctuates
Despite the brief cold sweep, temperatures in Delhi are projected to rise gradually by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days. The data revealed by IMD shows that maximum temperatures dipped slightly by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours in the city, while minimum temperatures remained stable largely.
Meanwhile, the temperatures at night have hovered between 18°C and 20°C, offering relatively mild conditions. On the other hand, the daytime highs ranged from 33°C to 34°C. The interplay between surging temperatures and rainfall is expected to maintain fluctuating conditions across Delhi.

Beyond Delhi, a wider swathe of North as well as Northwest India is poised to experience active weather. Several states, such as Haryana, Punjab, Western UP, Chandigarh and parts of Rajasthan are highly likely to record light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds gusting between 30-50 kmph.
The IMD has issued alerts of intensifying weather activity later this week due to the emergence of a fresh Western disturbance. Between April 3 and 6, widespread rainfall or snowfall is expected to batter Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Active weather to knock Eastern India's doors too
In the meantime, the eastern and northeastern parts of the country are also expected to see rainfall and thunderstorms. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may receive light to moderate downpours between March 31 and April 2, while similar conditions have been sounded for Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha on select days through the week.
