A special CBI court on Friday sent former actor-model Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh to CBI remand till June 2, 2026, officials said. According to officials, the central probe agency, which is investigating allegations of dowry harassment and suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, had sought five days of custody to interrogate both accused regarding the incidents leading to Twisha’s death.

According to reports, Giribala’s counsel did not oppose the agency’s request before the Bhopal District Court, following which the special court granted remand.

Giribala Singh was arrested after cancellation of bail plea

The latest development comes a day after the investigators arrested Giribala Singh following the cancellation of her anticipatory bail plea by the Madhya Pradesh High Court (HC).

Earlier, the cops had arrested her son Samarth Singh, after he surrendered at the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur. Notably, the case triggered widespread public outrage and intense scrutiny across the country.

Twisha, who was a resident of Noida, and had got married to Samarth, a Bhopal-based lawyer, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, 2026. Her family has constantly levelled allegations of mental and physical harassment against her in-laws over dowry demands. Moreover, they also alleged that the mother-son duo forced Twisha to undergo an abortion against her will.

On May 15, the police registered a case against the Singh family under sections pertaining to dowry harassment and other relevant sections.

SC took suo motu cognisance earlier

The case further picked pace after the Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of the matter and called for a fair, as well as independent investigation by the CBI into the death of the former actor-model. Notably, Twisha was an MBA graduate, and had got hitched to Samarth in December 2025.
