The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday filed a complaint with the Delhi Police after its post-results services portal was jolted by a slew of coordinated cyber-attacks during the course of its Class 10 and 12 re-evaluation and verification process.

The board assured the students and their parents on Friday that all cyber intrusion attempts had been foiled and that no student data had been compromised. CBSE maintained that its systems remained secure throughout the attacks, as continuous monitoring helped avert any breach of sensitive exam records.
Platform sees surge in traffic
The cyber threats came to pass shortly after the board opened its post-result portal for students seeking photocopies of evaluated answer sheets, re-evaluation of exam results and verification of marks.
CBSE officials said the platform saw an unprecedented spike in activity, accompanied by what appeared to be coordinated efforts to disrupt online services. The board reported that the portal suffered 1.5 million hits within just two minutes, placing significant pressure on the digital infrastructure.
Additionally, the security systems deployed on the portal detected more than one lakh unauthorised attempts to access files hosted there. According to officials, these attempts had been identified immediately and were blocked before any damage was done.

Millions of malicious data packets blocked
CBSE officials also claimed that they prevented a large-scale cyber attack involving close to 3.8 million malicious data packets aimed at overwhelming the portal’s servers. Notably, such attacks, usually used to disrupt online services, can render websites inaccessible by flooding them with excessive traffic. However, as per the board, its cybersecurity safeguards and technical teams ensured uninterrupted operations despite the looming pressure.
It is noteworthy that the portal continued to function as usual throughout the attacks, enabling students to access services and submit their respective applications without major disruptions.
Stats reveal more than 70k applications processed
As of June 4, 2026, the official statistics revealed by CBSE suggested that more than 70,000 students had submitted requests through the post-result grievance redressal mechanism. These applications included marks’ verification, obtaining copies of answer sheets and re-evaluation requests.

On the other hand, experts from premier institutions such as IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras have been roped in to extend technical assistance and recommendations, in a move to strengthen the digital defences of the board. CBSE has now pleaded with the Delhi Police to conduct an in-depth probe to identify the ones responsible for the attacks and ascertain whether their objective was to disrupt services, gain unauthorised access to data or both.
