Actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday met Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi in New Delhi for the first time since assuming office. They met each other after nearly 12 years at Seva Teerth in the national capital.
According to sources, their meeting lasted for 25 minutes and has fuelled political discussion across the country, particularly as it comes only weeks after Vijay took helm as Tamil Nadu CM.
Soon after the meeting, Vijay arrived at Tamil Nadu house, where he was accorded guard of honour during his first official visit to Delhi since becoming the Chief Minister earlier this month.

Vijay expected to hold more meetings
Political experts are viewing the meeting as a crucial political moment for the newly sworn-in CM, whose party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), dramatically derailed the DMK and the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu in the recently-held Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls 2026.
Sources said Vijay is expected to hold a series of high-level meetings during his Delhi tour. Apart from his interaction with PM Modi, he is scheduled to meet Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The 52-year-old actor-turned-politician is also likely to call on senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge at 10 Janpath.
TVK’s meteoric rise reshapes TN politics
Vijay’s visit to the national capital comes against the backdrop of a remarkable electoral breakthrough by his party, formed in 2024. The TVK emerged as the single largest party in the TN Assembly Polls 2026 by securing 108 seats.

Vijay later won the trust vote on May 13 with support from Congress, CPI(M), VCK and IUML legislators.
During the floor test, the Vijay-led government secured 144 votes in favour, while 22 MLAs voted against the motion and five abstained. A dramatic turn came to pass during the confidence vote, as 25 AIADMK legislators reportedly crossed party lines to support Vijay’s TVK government. Expelled AMMK MLA Kamaraj also voted in favour of the administration.
Although neither the Prime Minister’s office nor Vijay’s camp revealed the details of the discussion, political observers are keeping a close tab on the implications of the meeting.
