Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav displayed immense simplicity and adherence to austerity measures advised to the country’s citizens recently by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, as he travelled by the Delhi Metro on Thursday. With the move, he responded to PM Modi’s appeal for economic restraint.

Instead of his usual convoy, the state’s top political leader opted for public transport, travelling from Shivaji Stadium Metro Station to Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. During the course of his journey, he interacted with fellow passengers, engaged in conversations and listened to their views on governance, development and public welfare.

CM propagates message of sustainability and public participation

CM Dr Yadav’s journey was more than symbolic, as it propagated a clear message about sustainable living and responsible governance. By opting to use the public mode of transport, he highlighted the importance of cutting down fuel consumption, reducing pollution and embracing modern mobility solutions.

The Chief Minister also emphasised that systems like the Delhi Metro not only save time but also contribute largely to environmental protection, as well as energy conservation.

State govt issues guidelines

While addressing the media, CM Dr Yadav said that MP is taking PM Modi’s appeal seriously. The state government has introduced guidelines to promote fuel savings and reduce dependence on foreign resources.

He continued by saying that virtual cabinet meetings are being encouraged and ministers, along with the officials of various boards and corporations have been advised to adopt similar cost-saving measures. He claimed that collective efforts in this direction would help conserve foreign exchange and ramp up the country’s economic position.
