Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Monday conducted a comprehensive review of various schemes, programmes and activities being implemented by the state’s Culture Department. The review meeting, held at the Mantralaya (State secretariat) in Bhopal, focused on the progress of initiatives related to cultural preservation, promotion of folk arts, literature, music, theatre and heritage conservation.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to ensure the effective implementation of cultural programmes so that Madhya Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage gains wider recognition at both national and international levels.

Preservation of cultural heritage the top priority
In the meeting, CM Dr Yadav said MP enjoys a unique identity across the country due to its historical legacy, vibrant folk traditions and diverse cultural heritage. He emphasised that the state government is continuously working to preserve these traditions while making them accessible to younger generations.
He underlined that strengthening cultural awareness among youth is essential for preserving the state’s identity. He also highlighted the need to create better opportunities for artists and cultural practitioners so they can contribute more effectively to the preservation and promotion of traditional art forms.
Support to be extended to local artists

A key focus of the discussion was enhancing public participation in cultural events and ensuring greater support for local artists. CM Dr Yadav stressed that grassroots talent must be encouraged through dedicated programmes and wider exposure.
Officials were instructed to develop strategies that would help increase community involvement in cultural activities while ensuring that artists from different regions of the state receive adequate platforms to showcase their work.
CM reviews initiatives for upcoming financial year
The Culture Department also presented details of its proposed programmes and initiatives for the financial year 2026-27. The Chief Minister reviewed the plans and directed officials to implement them in a timely and effective manner.
He said the objective should be to maximise benefits for artists, writers, cultural organisations and institutions associated with literature, performing arts and heritage conservation.

Towards the conclusion of the meeting, CM Dr Yadav also unveiled the Kala Panchang (Art Calendar) for the financial year 2026-27. The publication outlines major cultural events, festivals, literary activities, music and dance performances, and art exhibitions scheduled throughout the year.
The Chief Minister said the calendar would serve as a valuable guide for artists, cultural institutions and art enthusiasts by providing a comprehensive overview of upcoming events.
