MP Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav-led government has greenlighted the Transfer Policy 2026, paving the way for a fresh round of transfers of government employees and officials across the state. The decision was finalised during a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Dr Yadav on Wednesday.
As per the newly approved policy, transfers in all the government departments will be carried out between June 1 and June 15, 2026. After the government’s approval, departments will now begin the process in accordance with the prescribed guidelines and rules.

Husband-wife posting at same place to be prioritised
The draft of the transfer policy had earlier been prepared by the General Administration department, and was sent to the secretariat for approval. After a round of discussions and consent from CM Dr Yadav, as well as other cabinet ministers, the policy received its final nod.
A key provision outlined in the new policy is that efforts shall be ensured to post husband and wife at the same location wherever possible. The state government, additionally, has also decided to provide relaxation in transfer-related matters to employees suffering from serious ailments.
If officials are to be believed, cases categorised under the ‘A Plus’ category in official note sheets will receive priority during the transfer process.
Separate quota for voluntary and administrative transfers
In addition to this, a new transfer policy also proposes a separate limit for voluntary and administrative transfers. Until now, both categories used to be included under a single quota, often creating hurdles in implementing transfers required for administrative reasons.
Earlier, transfers were permitted for nearly 10-15% of the total workforce, including both voluntary and mutual transfers. This arrangement used to affect necessary administrative reshuffles in several departments.
Under the revised framework, the government aims to streamline the transfer process and ensure smoother functioning of departments.

School education dept to have separate policy
Meanwhile, the state’s school education department will continue to follow a separate transfer policy, just like in previous years. Apart from this, the Tribal Affairs, Revenue and Energy Departments may also issue independent policies, although the basic structure laid down by the MP government will remain unchanged.
Notably, the transfers of Class III and Class IV employees will be carried out at the district level through ministers in charge and district collectors. However, transfers involving Class I officers will require approval from the Chief Minister.
