Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Saturday launched a statewide awareness campaign centred on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and underlined that the proposed policy framework would be prepared on the basis of suggestions received from the general public. He made the remarks while addressing the collectors of all the districts of MP, who were in attendance by means of video conferencing.

CM Dr Yadav said meaningful participation from the public is paramount to formulate an effective and inclusive policy. He directed the district administrations of the state to carry out extensive awareness campaigns and encourage citizens from both rural and urban areas to share their stance on the proposed legislation.

Awareness activities to be held in schools, colleges

The state’s top political leader instructed the officials to organise discussions and awareness activities and educational institutions including schools and colleges located in urban areas. He then called for interaction sessions with organisations engaged in social work, trade bodies, Bar Councils and other stakeholder groups to garner a wide range of opinions on the subject.

Collectors present virtually in the meeting

Moreover, government officials and employees have also been encouraged to submit their suggestions pertaining to the proposed UCC. At the village level, employment assistants, panchayat secretaries and other local functionaries have been asked to promote discussions and encourage residents to participate in the consultation process.

The Chief Minister suggested that special Gram Sabha meetings could also be held to facilitate dialogue on the issue and ensure broader outreach. He issued directives to all district collectors to treat the awareness campaign as a priority initiative.

Suggestions invited on dedicated UCC portal

Furthermore, CM Dr Yadav informed officials that suggestions regarding the UCC would be accepted till June 22 through a dedicated online platform, ucc.mp.gov.in. He added that the process has been designed to be simple and accessible for citizens.

People who wish to submit feedback will be required to provide their basic details such as name, religion, gender, division, district, address and cell phone number. Participants will be required to answer 12 questions with either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’, following which the submission shall be verified by means of a One-time password (OTP).

CM Dr Yadav thereafter reviewed the awareness activities being conducted at the district level and sought updates from collectors regarding the participation of commoners.
