Gujarat girls' suicide: Two college-going girls were found dead inside a restroom at Surat’s Swaninarayan Temple on Friday, the police reported on Saturday. As per police, preliminary probe reveals that the girls may have died by suicide, as a syringe and three bottles containing suspected poisonous drugs were recovered from the scene. 

Girls left home on Friday, failed to return 


The police claimed that the girls had left their respective homes for college on Friday morning, but did not return by noon. Their kin grew anxious and informed the police. The cops launched a search operation, and picked the trail from the last location of their cell phones.

The trail led them to the temple complex. When the cops arrived at the temple, they found the girls’ scooters parked inside the compound, raising the possibility of them being within the area.

The police then scanned the CCTV footage, in which they were seen walking towards a washroom inside the complex. The police personnel rushed to the washroom, and found its door locked from inside. They broke the door open to discover both the girls lying dead. The cops found a syringe and three drug bottles from the scene, strengthening the suspicion that they may have administered injections to themselves to end their lives.

Girls had also searched ‘How to commit suicide’ on an AI platform


The investigating police personnel ascertained during the probe that prior to the incident, the girls had also searched ‘ways to commit suicide’ on an Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform. The syringe, as well as the medicine bottles and the girls’ cell phones have been seized, and have been sent for forensic examination to unearth the circumstances surrounding their deaths.



Cops await postmortem report

Surat’s Dindoli police have registered a case of accidental death and have mounted a probe into the case. They said that the exact cause behind the girls' death will be confirmed only after the forensic and the postmortem reports are received.
