According to preliminary reports, the people who lost their lives had attended an annual function at a banquet hall in Shivajinagar earlier, and were returning home when they met the ill-fate. Police’s findings suggest that the car was being driven by one Sunil Dattatreya Dargode, who lost control while navigating a dimly lit stretch of road. The police said that the driver failed to notice the open well in darkness, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and plunge directly into the deep, water-filled pit.

Nashik car accident: Rescue teams pressed into operation

On receipt of the information, emergency services, including local police, fire brigade, disaster management teams and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot. However, water present inside the well hampered rescue efforts, officials said. Thereafter, the authorities deployed two hydra cranes and enlisted the help of local divers to locate and retrieve the vehicle. Despite swift action, none of the occupants survived the incident. Bhagwan Mathure, a cop attached to the Dindori police station, said that the rescue operation lasted over two hours. The vehicle was pulled out by 12:15 am on Saturday, along with the bodies of the victims.
