India’s top shuttlers delivered spectacular performances at the Thailand Open 2026, as PV Sindhu and the celebrated duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarter-finals of the BWF Super 500 tournament on Thursday.
Sindhu cruises through with clinical display
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu produced a composed and clinical performance to beat Denmark’s Amalie Schulz in straight games, 21-13, 21-15, putting an end to the contest in just 28 minutes.

The victory marks Sindhu’s second successive straight-game victory in the tournament, as she earlier brushed aside Chinese Taipei’s Tung Ciou-Tong in the opening round. The former world champion is now set to face a stern test against reigning world champion Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals.
It is noteworthy that Sindhu holds a slender 15-13 advantage in their head-to-head record, setting the stage for a pulsating encounter.
Satwik-Chirag duo maintains top-seed momentum
In men’s doubles, top seeds Satwik-Chirag continued their impressive run, getting the better of Malaysia’s Bryan Jeremy Goonting and Muhammad Haikal in straight games, 21-12, 21-19. The match was the duo’s first-ever face off with the Malaysian shuttlers.
The Indian duo, who has previously tasted success at the tournament held in 2019 and 2024, will next look to seize victory against Japan’s sixth-seeded combination of Takumi Nomura and Yuichi Shimogami in the quarter-final round.

Mixed fortunes for Indian shuttlers in the tournament
Elsewhere, certain Indian shuttlers are in contention, while several others bowed out after spirited-performances. Kidambi Srikanth impressed in the opening round with a straight-game upset over Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, winning 21-14, 21-15. Lakshya Sen, who made a comeback following an injury, registered a confident 21-16, 21-17 victory against Jia Heng Jason Teh. In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod battled through a gruelling three-game match against Zhang Wen Yu, while Thailand Masters 2026 champion Devika Sihag also advanced after her preliminary round-win.

However, it was curtains for World No. 48 Aakarshi Kashyap, who lost to World No. 4 Chen Yufei in a hard-fought contest, lasting over an hour.
With the competition entering into a crucial round, all eyes will be on Sindhi and the Satwik-Chirag duo, who have been entrusted with carrying forward India’s charge towards the semi-finals and beyond.
