Incident reported from Gondikheda village

As per police, the case surfaced from Dhar’s Gondikheda village, when a woman named Priyanka reported that a band of unidentified men had stormed her home, assaulted her, and killed her husband, Devkrishna before fleeing. She was found distressed, and her house was ransacked, which pointed towards a violent incident of robbery. However, the investigating police personnel soon began to suspect foul play, when they found inconsistencies in her account and signs that the crime scene had been staged deliberately.

MP husband killed by wife: Priyanka often used to taunt husband over his appearance

During the probe, the police recorded statements from the victim’s family, which indicated that the couple shared a strained relationship. According to relatives, Priyanka frequently argued with Devkrishna, and allegedly taunted him by saying- “Tum Kaale Ho (You’re dark skinned)” and that she deserves better. The kin claimed that she even sought a divorce from him on several occasions.

Police said these tensions formed the backdrop to a premeditated plan to eliminate Devkrishna.

Priyanka teams up with paramour, kills Devkrishna

The cops said that Priyanka had been in a relationship with a man named Kamlesh since 2020. Together, they hatched a conspiracy to murder Devkrishna and disguise the crime as a robbery.

Officials said Kamlesh enlisted the help of one of his aides, Surendra, and gave him a Supari (Contract for killing) of Rs 1 lakh to carry out Devkrishna’s killing. Devkrishna, when asleep at night, was attacked by the trio with a sharp-edged weapon, and died on the spot.

To cover their tracks, the accused allegedly scattered household items to simulate a robbery and tied Priyanka up before she raised an alarm to support the fabricated narrative. According to police, the deception was short-lived.

Breakthrough comes swiftly during probe

The police claimed they cracked the case within 36 hours, and laid hands on Kamlesh and Priyanka, while efforts are underway to arrest Surendra. Dhar Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayank Awasthi said that evidence and interrogation laid bare a ‘planned conspiracy’ aimed at misleading the cops.

Notably, the case has sent shockwaves through the local community.
