Two passenger buses collided head-on in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district on Friday, killing six people, the police said. According to police, the road mishap transpired near the Sehatganj Toll Plaza in the Umrawgganj police station area of Raisen.

The bus damaged in the incident

The collision was so fierce that the front portions of both the buses involved in the accident were completely mangled, throwing the passengers of the vehicles in panic and leaving several trapped under the wreckage. 

Driver of both buses killed

According to preliminary reports, six people, including the drivers of both the buses, died soon after the crash. Meanwhile, more than two dozen passengers were injured in the accident, and several of them are in a critical condition.

The grievously injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals for advanced treatment, while other victims were dispensed immediate medical attention at local healthcare facilities. 

Incident prompts immediate rescue operation

Eyewitnesses said that after the crash, chaos ensued at the scene, with passengers crying out for help from inside the mangled vehicles. Several people were trapped between seats and twisted sections of the bus structures.

The locals and the passers-by were the first respondents to the incident, who began rescue efforts before the arrival of emergency services. They helped pull injured passengers from the wreckage and assisted in rushing the victims to safer locations. 

Upon receipt of the information, police, accompanied by district administration officials and rescue teams made it to the scene quickly and launched a coordinated relief operation. Emergency responders transported the injured people to hospitals by means of ambulances. 

CM Dr Yadav expresses grief

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav also took cognisance of the incident, expressing grief over the loss of lives. He posted a message on his official ‘X’ handle, announcing a solatium of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of the people who died. In the post, he said he had directed Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel to take stock of the relief measures at the site. 

Further in the post, he prayed for the peace of the departed souls and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Meanwhile, the authorities have launched a probe to determine the exact cause leading up to the accident.
