In a shocking incident that has raised concerns over patient safety around the nation, five women died after developing complications after deliveries at Kota’s New Medical College Hospital.

Suspected Faulty Oxytocin Injections under Investigation

Investigators say that the oxytocin injections administered to the women contained water instead of medicine required to prevent excessive bleeding after childbirth.

These women had undergone C-sections and were prescribed oxytocin injections as a part of standard treatment process.

Failed Vials Linked to Post-Delivery Complications

The investigation also revealed that the vials did not contain the required drug. As a result, the medicine failed to control bleeding post-delivery, leading to severe complications and eventually claiming the lives of five mothers.

Authorities Trace Source of Suspected Batch

Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar confirmed that irregularities had been detected in the injections. Samples from the batch reportedly failed the quality test, prompting authorities to hold a high level inquiry. Officials have seized stocks of the suspected injections and are tracing the supply chain.  Reports indicate that the batch originated from a laboratory in Amritsar, Punjab.

Authorities said efforts are underway to identify everyone involved in the manufacturing and distribution process and assured that those found guilty would face strict legal action.

Batch Samples Sent for Further Testing

Authorities have sent samples from the suspected batch for detailed examination to determine how the contamination occurred. Medical experts are looking into whether the problem arose during manufacturing or at some stage at storing and distribution. Officials say that the test results would help would help establish responsibility and ensure that such tragedy does not occur again.

Families Seek Justice

The deaths of the five women have sparked anger among their families and local residents. Many have demanded strict action against those responsible. Relatives of the victims alleged that negligence at various levels led to the incident and called for justice as well as adequate compensation.
