According to his family, the incident took place when he was going to the police station to join the cops in an ongoing probe linked to the relationship.

Man who was killed identified as Monu

The police said that the man who was tortured to death has been identified as Monu (21), a state-level shuttler. He was known locally for making rapid strides in the sport.

Monu’s uncle Narendra said that the young athlete had recently taken his Class 12 exams and had also earned recognition as a state-level badminton player. He added that Monu had also claimed several medals in district-level competitions.

He was embroiled in a controversy after he reportedly developed a relationship with a minor girl from the Tigaon police station area in Faridabad. Her maternal uncle lived in Monu’s native village, Saidpur, and she used to visit the area often, during which the two grew close.

Monu eloped with girl in April

Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal said that Monu had allegedly eloped with the minor girl in April 2026, following which her father approached the cops and lodged a complaint. While the girl was traced later, Monu remained untraceable for some time.

Monu’s family members said that he appeared before police on May 17 to join the probe into the case. They alleged that however, shortly afterwards, the girl’s kin abducted him and subjected him to severe torture for three days.

He was rushed to a hospital for treatment immediately, but could not be saved. The locals in the area have demanded strict action against the ones responsible for killing Monu.

Meanwhile, the police said they have detained two persons for questioning and are probing the incident at length.
