Professor calls student 'terrorist': A professor at PES University in Karnataka's capital, Bengaluru, has been suspended after he made a communal remark against a Muslim student in the middle of a class a few days ago, igniting outrage among students and on social media.


The incident’s video has been circulating rapidly on social media, and it reportedly took place on March 24, 2026. In the footage, the faculty member, identified as Muralidhar Deshpande, is being heard scolding a student, saying, “You’re a terrorist. What do you eat.? I thought I would be very calm today. Don’t you have any shame? Useless fellow.”

Video sparks protests, political attention


The clip went viral soon after it was recorded by the students attending the class, and triggered protests within the campus. The students condemned the remarks as discriminatory and unacceptable. Members of a student wing affiliated with the Indian National Congress (INC) met the university administration thereafter, demanding strict action against the professor.



University begins probe, suspends professor


Responding to the backlash swiftly, the university confirmed that Professor Deshpande has been placed under suspension pending an internal inquiry. The institute’s Chancellor, Jawahar Doreswamy, said that a probe into the incident is underway. Doreswamy said, “We have CCTV cameras in every classroom and we have asked our technical team to verify the authenticity of the video,” adding that the university’s disciplinary committee will review all available evidence before taking any further action against the professor.
