A chilling incident of matricide took place in Karnataka’s Mysuru, when a 30-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother and set her body ablaze to conceal the crime, the police reported on Monday. As per police, the accused committed the crime as he suspected her mother of having an extra-marital relationship.

According to reports, the incident transpired in the Madahalli village near Mysuru, and the woman who was murdered has been identified as Sudha (48).

Frequent disputes ensued between man, his mother over relationship

Police officials aware of the incident said that the accused, Shivarudrappa S, had objected to his mother’s extra-marital relationship with another man, and often warned her to sever ties with him. However, Sudha refused to do so and remained in touch with him, escalating disputes and tensions within the family.

Investigating police personnel said that the situation took a grim turn after Shivarudrappa allegedly spotted his mother riding pillion on a bike with the man in question. Enraged at the sight, the ongoing conflict deepened between the mother-son duo.

Police sources said that on Sunday morning, yet another argument ensued between Shivarudrappa and Sudha. It quickly spiralled out of control, as the former launched a physical assault on Sudha. After this, their relatives tried to rush her to the hospital for treatment.

Accused intercepts relatives

Shivarudrappa allegedly intercepted his kin, who were transporting Sudha to the hospital, and insisted that he would take her to the hospital. However, instead of seeking treatment for her, Shivarudrappa allegedly attacked her once again and struck her with a stone on her head, causing fatal injuries.

Following this, he transported Sudha’s body to a plantation area near Kaniyanahundi village and set her body ablaze, only to flee from the scene later.

Two cousins in police custody too

The probe widened after police later unearthed the involvement of Shivarudrappa’s cousins, Akash (24) and Abhi (22) in aiding him in the crime. Police suspect that the duo extended support to Shivarudrappa in disposing of the body and concealing evidence linked to the gruesome murder.

A police team led by the Circle Inspector launched a probe and cracked the case within a few hours. All the three accused were arrested, and are being interrogated further.
