Two separate road accidents unfolded on Saturday in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, killing a total of 10 people, the police said, adding to the spate of road accident deaths across the country.

The deadlier of the two incidents transpired in Punjab’s Ferozepur district on Saturday, where a pick-up vehicle collided with a truck, claiming the lives of seven persons and rendering several others injured, as per officials.

The accident in Ferozepur occurred near Jangawala Mor on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road when a pick-up vehicle ferrying 25 people crashed into a truck. The vehicle was heading towards Beas in Amritsar when it met the ill-fate. The fierce collision caused extensive casualties, as seven occupants lost their lives instantly. 

More than ten people were injured in the incident and were swiftly transported to the Ferozepur Civil Hospital for treatment. According to authorities, several grievously injured victims were later referred to the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for specialised treatment.

Police said they have begun probing the circumstances that led to the wreckage. Meanwhile, the identities of the ones who died have still not been ascertained. 

Bike crash in UP’s Mathura swallows three lives

In a separate incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, three young men were killed and two others were injured when their bikes collided head-on with each other on Baldev Road. 

The accident involved five riders onboard two bikes. As per police,  two people were sitting on one bike, while the other bike had three occupants. Jamuna Par Police Station House Officer (SHO) Videsh Tyagi said both occupants of one bike and another rider of the second bike died in the crash.

Two of the people who died have been identified as Gopi (18), a resident of Ajai Nagar and Chotu (18), a native of Gopalpur. Upon arrival at the hospital, the doctors pronounced them dead. The third victim, identified as Saurabh (20), hailed from Gokul, and was among the riders on the second bike. He was admitted to a private hospital after the crash but succumbed to his injuries later. 

According to police, they have sent the bodies for post-mortem and are conducting an inquiry into the cause of the accident.
