Odisha minor girl molested: Another minor girl fell prey to a molestation incident, this time at a residential school in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district. Reports claim the headmaster of the Sevashram school in Tentulikhunti area allegedly molested the girl, a Class 7 student, and was suspended after the survivor’s family lodged a police complaint.

Accused drags girl into room, touches her inappropriately


According to police, the incident took place on the night of April 15, when five girl students had gone to drink water. During this, the headmaster of the institute, identified as Sukanta Sarangi, allegedly isolated one of them, dragged her into a room and touched her inappropriately. 

The next day, the girl confided in her family and narrated her ordeal to them. The family swiftly approached the District Welfare Officer and filed a complaint, seeking action against the accused. Initially, the authorities transferred the headmaster, but no legal action was taken.

Family accompanied by BJD leader approaches police, accused booked


Seeking justice, the survivor girl’s family, accompanied by senior BJP leader and former MP of Nabarangpur, Pradeep Majhi, approached the police and lodged a complaint. The cops began probing the allegations, and amid this, the district collector suspended the accused headmaster immediately.

Odisha minor girl molested: Authorities say probe underway


Nabarangpur’s SDPO Krishna Chandra Bhatra told the media that a zero FIR has been registered by IIC Sambit Kumar Behera. He added that since the incident took place in Tentulikhunti, the case will be transferred there for further probe. 

Inspector Seema Pradhan of the Women and Child Trafficking Unit at the SP’s office will head the probe. She said that the allegations appear to have substance. Moreover, as part of the investigation, the lady cop will visit the Sevashram, examine the scene, and will seize important documents including the admission register. 

Survivor to be produced before CWC


Meanwhile, the survivor will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), where her medical examination will be conducted, and her statements shall be recorded before the court. Further action shall be carried out as per the directives issued by the CWC, SDPO Bhatra said.
