Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was present on the occasion, underlining the significance of the alliance that propelled Vijay to power. Notably, Vijay has become the state’s first CM since 1967 not affiliated with either the DMK or the AIADMK, putting an end to decades of bipolar political dominance in the state.

As per an official communication, the Governor has directed Vijay to prove his majority on the Assembly floor by May 13, 2026.

“A common man”: Here’s what Vijay said in his first address

He pledged to usher in ‘en era of real, secular, social justice,’ while urging the commoners to grant him reasonable time to deliver on his commitments.
