Telugu icon Ram Charan mistakenly addresses MP people as ‘Biharis’ at Peddi event in Bhopal; faces backlash online
Telugu mega powerstar Ram Charan has landed in the middle of a social media controversy after one of his comments during the promotional event of his upcoming film, ‘Peddi’ in Bhopal triggered widespread criticism online. Several internet users trolled the actor after he referred to the people from Madhya Pradesh as ‘Biharis.’ His remark sparked a debate across social media platforms over regional identity and public sensitivity.
Notably, the Telugu actor committed another goof-up at the same event earlier, mistakenly associating Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah with football during a fan interaction segment.
Clips from Bhopal event go viral, stir reactions
The grand promotional event for the Telugu movie, Peddi, was held in Bhopal on Saturday, in which music maestro AR Rahman and actress Janhvi Kapoor were also in attendance. The evening features stage interactions, audience engagement sessions and light-hearted exchanges between the cast and fans. However, several snippets from the event began making rounds online rapidly, with many users pointing out what they believed was an incorrect reference made by Ram Charan while interacting with the crowd.
As the clips went viral across ‘X’, Instagram and other social media platforms, users criticised the actor for confusing residents of Madhya Pradesh with those from Bihar.
However, the internet had a divided opinion over the issue. While several netizens described the remark as careless, others defended Ram Charan, calling it an unintentional slip of tongue during a live interaction.
Bumrah confusion already went viral
Before the latest controversy emerged, Ram Charan had already grabbed headlines from the same event following a rapid-fire interaction involving Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. During the segment, the actor mistakenly praised Bumrah for his ‘football skills,’ apparently confusing him with a footballer. The audience at the event was left in splits and the clip quickly became a trending topic online.
However, Charan clarified the mix-up later and apologised on his official ‘X’ handle for the confusion.
