After TCS Row, religious conversion allegation surfaces from Wipro Pune unit; harassment, forced resignation alleged
In a case drawing parallels with the Nashik TCS religious conversion and sexual harassment row, a former employee at the Pune unit of Wipro Technologies has levelled similar allegations on Thursday, accusing her co-workers of workplace discrimination, religious harassment and compelling her to resign after she raised concerns over alleged attempts to influence her religious beliefs.
The allegations emerged during a press conference organised by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Pune, where the victim recounted a series of incidents that she claimed took place during her tenure at Wipro’s Hinjewadi office. After the revelations, a complaint was lodged at the Hinjewadi police station. The woman’s legal counsel confirmed that a notice seeking compensation of Rs 50 lakh has also been served to the company.
Victim says she was mounted pressure to resign
Addressing media-persons, the former employee alleged that she was subjected to unfair treatment after reporting concerns to the senior authorities of the company. She said the incident transpired in August 2025 when she was summoned to a team meeting and allegedly mounted pressure to tender her resignation. She said, “I was called to a team meeting in August 2025. During the meeting, I was pressured to resign. I was not allowed to explain my side, and my resignation was taken.”
Furthermore, she alleged that despite repeatedly attempting to present her side of the story, she was denied a fair opportunity to do so.
What claims did the victim make?
At the heart of the complaint are allegations that a female co-worker of the victim allegedly encouraged her to convert to Islam and enter into a relationship with a Muslim man. She claimed that the co-worker frequently interfered in her personal life, suggesting that abandoning Hinduism would improve her prospects and enable opportunities abroad.
Her account mentioned that these interactions continued over several months, triggering significant distress and discomfort in the workplace.
Company officials allegedly paid no heed
The woman went on to allege that she informed senior officials about the incident and sought intervention. However, the complaint allegedly fell on deaf ears and no action was taken upon the complaint.
Instead, she alleged that a complaint had been filed against her before the company’s ombuds committee, aggravating the situation further. Police officials have since begun probing the allegations after the complaint was received. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the probe.
