NEET Aspirant from Nagpur Mistakenly Assigned Exam Centre in Abu Dhabi

A day before the re-NEET examination, a Nagpur-based medical aspirant was left stunned after discovering that his admit card had assigned him an examination centre in Abu Dhabi, triggering outrage among students and parents and raising fresh concerns over glitches in the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) examination system.

The issue came to light when the student, who had registered for the examination from Maharashtra, downloaded his admit card and found that he had been allotted a test centre in the United Arab Emirates. Screenshots of the admit card quickly circulated on social media, prompting criticism of the agency and renewed scrutiny over the conduct of the high-stakes medical entrance examination.

Social Media Outrage Over Centre Allocation

As news of the incident spread, students and parents questioned how such a major discrepancy could occur just a day before the examination. Several users took to social media platforms to express their frustration, with many remarking that the NTA had “one job”  to ensure a smooth and error-free examination process.

The controversy surfaced even as mock drills and final preparations were being conducted across the country ahead of the re-NEET exam. The timing of the error intensified anxiety among candidates already grappling with uncertainty surrounding the examination.

Critics argued that such mistakes could have caused severe distress to candidates and highlighted the need for stronger verification mechanisms before admit cards are issued.

NTA Rectifies Error Following Complaints

Following the backlash and complaints from the student and his family, the National Testing Agency acted swiftly to address the issue. According to reports, the agency corrected the centre allocation and issued a revised admit card, assigning the candidate an examination centre within India.

The prompt correction ensured that the student would be able to appear for the examination without disruption. However, the incident has once again brought attention to the importance of robust administrative systems and effective grievance redressal mechanisms in national-level examinations.

Questions Raised Over Examination Preparedness

While the immediate issue has been resolved, the episode has sparked broader questions about the preparedness of the NTA and the possibility of similar errors affecting other candidates.

With lakhs of students relying on the integrity and efficiency of the examination process, education experts and parents have called on the agency to undertake additional checks to prevent such lapses and restore confidence in the system ahead of future examinations.
