Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav demonstrated a hands-on approach to governance, and conducted a surprise inspection at a wheat procurement centre in Khargone’s Katargaon village on Thursday morning. Notably, a day ago, the Chief Minister had said in Maheshwar that could visit any procurement centre without prior notice. Acting on his word, he arrived unannounced to assess the on-ground arrangements and ensure smooth procurement operations are underway there. 

CM interacts with farmers 

During the visit, CM Dr Yadav took stock of the facilities available at the centre and interacted directly with the farmers present there. He enquired about their experiences with the procurement process and also paid heed to their concerns. During the course of the interaction, he also shared a cup of tea with farmers, fostering a sense of engagement and trust. 

Thereafter, the Chief Minister issued directives to the officials and the staff at the centre to maintain efficiency and ensure that the farmers face no inconvenience during the sale of their produce. 

Facilities stepped up at procurement centres 

Notably, the Madhya Pradesh government has stepped up infrastructure at the procurement centres for the facility of farmers. Basic amenities such as shaded waiting areas and seating arrangements have been laid, and the farmers now have the flexibility to sell their produce at any procurement centre within their respective district. 

In order to minimise delays in weighing, the number of weighing machines at the centres has been increased to six, and plans are underway to add more of them across districts. 

Moreover, essential facilities such as gunny bags, labour support, stitching machines, computers, internet connectivity, coupons, quality testing equipment and cleaning tools have been provided to ensure a seamless procurement process. 

Wheat procurement stats released by government

As per the official data released by the government, 9.83 lakh farmers of MP have booked slots to sell 60.84 lakh metric tonnes of wheat at the Minimum Support Price. So far, procurement has been completed from close to 5.08 lakh farmers, amounting to 22.70 lakh metric tonnes. In 2025, the state procured 77 lakh metric tonnes of wheat under MSP. Despite global challenges, the Madhya Pradesh government has set a target of procuring 100 lakh metric tonnes this year.
