The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday greenlit a major healthcare initiative aimed at strengthening medical services across the state by allowing 18 Community Health Centres (CHCs) in Rewa, Dewas and Guna districts to be operated under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav. The state government described the move as a pilot project intended to address the shortage of medical professionals and improve healthcare delivery in underserved areas.

Pilot project to address shortage of doctors

Briefing the media on the Cabinet decisions, MSME Minister Chaitanya Kashyap said that under the proposed model, medicines will continue to be supplied by the government, while private operators will be responsible for appointing specialist doctors and other healthcare staff.

According to the government, the initiative has been launched in view of the shortage of doctors in several parts of the state. Of the 18 selected health centres, five were reportedly functioning without doctors, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.

Incentives for charitable hospitals

In another significant healthcare-related decision, the Cabinet agreed to support institutions and charitable trusts willing to establish large hospitals in Madhya Pradesh.

Under the proposed policy, the government will provide land and offer subsidies on super-speciality medical equipment. A committee comprising five ministers will be constituted to formulate a detailed policy framework. These hospitals will also be required to provide treatment under the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, ensuring affordable healthcare access for eligible beneficiaries.

Revised Indore metro cost approved

The Cabinet also gave nod to the revised cost estimate for the Indore Metro project. Following the revision, the total project expenditure is expected to reach approximately ₹12,900 crore.

Additionally, the state government decided to extend the deadline under the ongoing transfer policy by one more day beyond 15 June to facilitate the uploading of pending transfer orders.

Cabinet reviews Yoga Day preparations

Furthermore, the cabinet reviewed preparations for the International Day of Yoga, scheduled to be observed on June 21, 2026. The state-level main event will be held in Jabalpur and is expected to be attended by the President of India and CM Dr Yadav.

Discussions were also held on the state's achievements and initiatives related to tiger conservation, cyber security, renewable energy and tourism, including recognition received in these sectors.
