A late-night police raid at a resort in Arunachal Pradesh’s Roing laid bare a sex racket, and the cops rescued four women from the spot. According to police officials, the raid was carried out in the Lower Dibang Valley District, where the illicit racket had been operating.

The police said they acted on tip-offs and busted the racket at a resort in the Meka area on Sunday night. Alleged prostitution activities were being conducted on the premises. 

4 women rescued, several detained for interrogation

As per police, the four women rescued during the operation had reportedly been brought from Tinsukia in Assam, which have been taken into protective custody and are being provided necessary assistance. 

Meanwhile, the cops laid hands on the resort’s owner and manager, along with several other customers present during the raid. All of them were detained and questioned. The authorities alleged that all the ones apprehended were engaging in illicit activities, when the raid struck. As per police’s preliminary findings, the racket’s operatives trafficked women from outside the state, while the clientele largely comprised local residents. 

Efforts on to unearth full network

The police said they have registered a case at the Roing police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA). Senior officials said efforts are underway to unearth the full extent of the network and identify other persons linked to the racket. They added that they had been receiving complaints from locals over immoral activities in the area over the past few days, after which they resorted to surveillance and action. 

Arunachal HM reaffirms zero-tolerance policy

Arunachal Pradesh’s Home Minister, Mama Natung, reacted to the development, heaping praise on the police team for their decisive and prompt action. He also reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards unlawful practices and social evils. 

Furthermore, he informed that the resort had been operating without a valid license, adding that the culprits would be subjected to strict legal action.
