A spine-chilling murder of a married man in Telangana’s Kamareddy, disguised as a road accident fatality, has surfaced on Monday, after which the police have arrested his wife and her paramour on charges of killing him, the police said. According to police, the duo killed the man to claim insurance benefits and continue their relationship unhindered. 

The accused duo have been identified as Kancharla Renuka and her lover, Kancharla Gangasekhar, who were produced before a court and have been remanded to judicial custody for the carefully crafted crime. 

Incident unfolds on May 22

The police said the case began on May 22 when Renuka, a resident of Markal village in Sadashivanagar mandal, approached the cops, claiming her husband Kancharla Rajaiah (45), had died in a road accident. 

She mentioned in her complaint that he was heading to his farmland late at night when an animal unexpectedly crossed the road, causing him to lose control of his bike and crash. Prima facie, the incident appeared to be a routine road accident. However, the investigating police personnel soon noticed several inconsistencies which prompted an in-depth probe.

Forensic evidence blows the lid off the crime

A special police team was then constituted to examine the scene meticulously. The cops sifted through the CCTV footage, gathered testimonies of witnesses, reviewed technical evidence and scrutinised the findings of the post-mortem report. 

The evidence gathered by cops painted an entirely different picture. DSP Srinivas Rao said, “The injuries were not consistent with those typically sustained in a road accident. The autopsy findings and technical evidence clearly indicated that Rajaiah was murdered.” 

As suspicion picked up pace, police detained Gangasekar for interrogation. During the questioning, he confessed to his involvement in the crime. 

4-year relationship with Renuka triggers conspiracy

As per police, Gangasekar (37) was in a relationship with Renuka for four years. Police believe the couple decided to eliminate Rajaiah, as they viewed him as a hindrance to their relationship, and also sought to benefit financially through insurance claims. 

The police said that on May 21, Gangasekar allegedly took Rajaiah to the Gandhari area, where he was made to consume alcohol. Later, he was attacked with an iron rod on the outskirts of Tirmanpally village. Police said Rajaiah died soon after suffering a severe blow to his head. 

Accused tried passing off murder as bike crash

To divert the suspicion of the police, the accused allegedly left Rajaiah’s body alongside his bike and attempted to pass it off as a result of the road accident. However, a probe by police, coupled with technical and forensic evidence unravelled the crime.
