‘Drishyam 3’, the third instalment of the Drishyam franchise, has taken the box office by storm, as the Mohahlal-headlined film has minted more than Rs 100 crore globally within just three days of its release. 

The film, directed by Jeethu Joseph, is enjoying a sensational theatrical run, recording strong footfall not only in Kerala but also across Kannada, Telugu and Tamil markets. The film has emerged as a massive-crowd puller.

Movie races past Rs 47 crore in India

As per early trade estimates, the film has raked in a staggering Rs 13.7 crore on its third day at the domestic box office. The original Malayalam version dominated the collections yet again, contributing Rs 11.65 crore alone. 

It was seconded by the Telugu dubbed version, which earned Rs 1.2 crore. The Tamil version added Rs 60 lakh, while the Kannada version contributed Rs 25 lakh. The film’s India gross collection has surged to Rs 47.17 crore, while the India net collection now stands at Rs 40.6 crore. 

According to trade analysts, the film’s emotional depth, suspense-driven narrative and Geogekutty’s immense popularity have played a pivotal role in drawing audiences back to theatres.

Overseas markets fuel blockbuster number

Apart from its splendid performance in India, Drishyam 3 has been riding on success overseas too. On Saturday alone, the film made Rs 25 crore from international territories. Its total overseas gross collection has touched Rs 70 crore, steering the film to a whopping Rs 117.17 crore mark globally in just three days. 

According to reports, the film has particularly performed well in Gulf countries, North America and select European markets, where Malayalam movies continue to enjoy a loyal audience base. 

Occupancy remains strong

The thriller maintained robust occupancy figures across regions on May 23, registering an overall occupancy rate of 50.2% across 5,185 shows across the nation. Malayalam screenings posted the highest occupancy at 66.52%. Meanwhile, evening and night shows saw an especially heavy turnout, touching over 75% occupancy in several centres. 

Tamil screenings also posted solid numbers with an overall occupancy of 50.69%, while Telugu screenings boasted a 25.19% occupancy. Kannada screenings stood at 24.27% overall, with night shows seeing comparatively better audience response. 

Industry observers are expecting collections to remain steady through the coming week, fuelled by positive word-of-mouth and strong family audience appeal.

Mohanlal reprises his iconic role as georgekutty in the third instalment, alongside Meena as Rani George. The film also features Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Murali Gopy, Biju Menon and Kalabhavan Shajohn in key roles. Notably, its prequels, Drishyam 2 and Drishyam received critical and widespread acclaim for their gripping plot and layered suspense.
