Malayalam superstar Mohanlal-starrer Drishyam 3 stormed the box office with an impressive start on Thursday, as excitement surrounding Georgekutty’s return reached fever pitch on the film’s release day. Notably, the film’s release coincided with Mohanlal’s 66th birthday, and has already crossed major advance booking milestones across Kerala and overseas markets.

41.9k+ tickets sold in advance

The Jeethu Joseph-directorial reportedly sold more than 41,490 tickets online within just one hours of bookings opening, underscoring the massive craze surrounding the movie. As per trade reports, the film’s first-day pre-sales in Kerala alone logged a mark of Rs 7 crore, while bookings from other parts of India contributed Rs 3.40 crore. On the global level, the advance booking  figure surged to Rs 25.86 crore. The trade estimates suggest that the first weekend is expected to breach the Rs 35 crore mark worldwide. 

With the figures, the film has cemented its position among the biggest Malayalam openings of the year.

Details of the third instalment

Mohanlal’s character Georgekutty returns with his family in the film, as all of them continue to grapple with the aftermath of the murder cover-up which formed the backbone of its prequels.

According to reports, the story resumes after the events of Drishyam 2, as police make one final attempt to expose Georgekutty and bring him to trial. The latest trial, according to industry buzz, indicates that it may conclude the popular trilogy. Apart from Mohanlal, actors Esther Anil, Ansiba Hassan and Meena have reprised their roles in the movie. The project is jointly backed by Aashirvad Cinemas and Panorama Studios. 

Hindi version to release in October 2026

Drishyam 3 Malayalam vs Hindi

Meanwhile, the Hindi adaptation of the franchise, headlined by Ajay Devgn, is slated to hit the theatres on October 2, 2026. Earlier, the filmmakers revealed that the Hindi version will feature a storyline different from the Malayalam original. 

The Malayalam version of the film has a runtime of 2 hours and 38 minutes, and reports suggest that the second half is more intense and significantly longer than the first.
