UP: Boy, 9, shot dead after he refuses to fetch water for mixing with alcohol; accused arrested
A chilling incident at a village in UP’s Kasganj district has left the residents in disbelief, as a 9-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead, after he refused to fetch water for mixing with alcohol during a family function, the police said.
Incident unfolds on Friday
According to police, the incident took place on Friday in Yakutganj village under the jurisdiction of the Sahawar Police Station limits. The victim kid was attending a naming ceremony at his house, when the grim incident unfolded. According to the boy’s kin, the accused, identified as Dhanesh Yadav, a relative of the victim’s father, was consuming alcohol during the ceremony. He allegedly asked the boy to fetch water to mix it with his drink, but the latter refused.
Yadav fires at boy’s stomach
Yadav, in a fit of rage and under the inebriation of alcohol, fired at the child and the bullet struck him on his stomach. The incident sent a wave of panic among the guests attending the ceremony, bringing it to an abrupt and horrifying halt.
The boy was rushed to the Kasganj district hospital and was later referred to Aligarh, given his critical condition. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Accused flees, held by police later
Sahawar Police Station House officer (SHO) Govind Ballabh Sharma said that Yadav was booked after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s family. The accused fled the spot immediately after the crime, but was apprehended later near the Khitauli canal bridge. The cops also seized the firearm used in the crime from him.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Kumar Bharti said legal proceedings have begun against the accused, and he is being sent to judicial custody. As per police, they are probing the case from all angles to establish the sequence of events.
