Actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) C Joseph Vijay celebrated his 52nd birthday on Monday, receiving an outpouring of wishes from some of India’s top political leaders and film icons. Popularly known as ‘Thalapathy’ in Kollywood (Tamil film industry), Vijay marked the occasion amid a historic chapter in his life, having transitioned smoothly from one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars to the Chief Minister of the South-Indian state.
Notably, the 52-year-old’s birthday carries immense significance as it is his first since leading his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to a landmark victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
Messages of goodwill flooded social media platforms, reflecting Vijay’s unique influence across both politics and entertainment.

The country’s top political leader and Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi conveyed his greetings through a post on ‘X’. He wished TN CM Vijay a long, healthy and prosperous life, acknowledging his role in public service.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also chipped in, expressing solidarity with him in advancing the rights, dignity and aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu. His message shed light on the growing stature of the former actor, who has shot to fame in Indian politics besides earning critical acclaim in movies.
Tamil film fraternity immerses in celebrations too
The Tamil film fraternity also came together to celebrate one of its most cherished and decorated stars. Veteran Tamil actor Kamal Haasan shared a heartfelt message penned down in Tamil, terming Vijay his ‘beloved younger brother’ and praising the affection he continues to receive from millions of admirers.
Haasan was joined by Nayanthara and several other industry figures, underlining Vijay’s enduring popularity despite his departure from acting.

Meanwhile, uncertainty still looms over the release of the final film of Vijay’s acting career, Jana Nayagan, which translates to ‘People’s Hero.’ The H. Vinoth's directorial serves as Vijay’s 69th and final appearance as a lead actor, offering fans a final opportunity to watch the superstar on the silver screen.
