Rajesh Kumar Budania, a police officer probing the incident, said the student was found dead at his rented accommodation in Sikar. The police learnt that the youth’s father works in Mumbai to fund the education of his children. Police said the student had returned to Sikar on Monday morning after accompanying his mother to their native village.

Later in the day, his siblings found him unresponsive and raised an alarm. The police rushed to the scene and began probing the incident.

Suicide note recovered

The investigating police personnel recovered a brief handwritten note from the spot, and have begun examining the case from all aspects as part of the probe.

Stress being suspected to be the trigger behind incident

A preliminary probe carried out by the police indicates the student may have been reeling under stress related to exam preparation and the prospect of appearing for NEET for the third time.

Notably, the incident comes against the backdrop of the cancellation of NEET UG 2026 exam, which had originally been conducted on May 3. The National Testing Agency (NTA) annulled the exam on May 12 after central investigative agencies confirmed that the question paper had been compromised.

More than 22 lakh candidates had taken the test across 551 cities nationwide. After the controversy, the NTA announced a fresh examination date and handed over the paper leak case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
